Kiambu, E4Impact and GIZ intensify push for affordable biodigester energy and stronger circular economy practices

Kiambu County has strengthened its drive toward cleaner, affordable and community-friendly energy solutions following a courtesy call to CECM David Kuria by E4Impact and GIZ—two key partners in advancing medium-to-large scale biodigester technology.

The meeting focused on expanding the adoption of biodigesters as a reliable option for households, institutions and farmers seeking alternatives to costly and unsustainable energy sources. Biodigesters convert human and organic waste into clean biogas and nutrient-rich bioslurry, offering both an energy solution and a boost to soil fertility.

County officials and the visiting team also explored opportunities to improve market waste management systems, promote wider use of bioslurry in agriculture and integrate biogas technologies into vocational training programmes to build local technical expertise.

According to the county, the engagement signals a strong commitment to accelerating green energy uptake and promoting circular economy practices that reduce waste, improve environmental health and support economic growth.

E4Impact and GIZ affirmed their readiness to strengthen long-term collaboration with Kiambu to ensure residents, farmers and local institutions benefit from practical, sustainable and cost-effective energy innovations.
