Nyamira Governor Amos Nyaribo has been impeached following a majority vote by Members of the County Assembly on Tuesday. Twenty-three out of the county’s 31 MCAs voted in favour of a motion seeking his removal from office, citing gross misconduct, abuse of office, and irregular appointments.
The impeachment motion was tabled by Bonyamatuta Ward MCA Julius Kimwomi Matwere and sponsored by Majority Leader Julius Matwere. MCAs backing the motion argued that the governor’s conduct had undermined the integrity of county institutions and eroded public confidence in his administration.
This is the third attempt to oust Governor Nyaribo, with recurring disputes over governance and staff management repeatedly straining relations between the executive and the assembly.
The governor’s fate now rests with the Senate, which will determine whether the Assembly’s decision meets the constitutional threshold for removal from office.
