Kiambu County Library Thika graduates youth

The Kiambu County Library in Thika has held its 24th graduation ceremony for youth who successfully completed a skills development programme under the Library Innovation and Creative Hub, marking another milestone in efforts to equip young people with practical, job-ready competencies.

The three-month programme targets youth across Kiambu County, offering training in emerging and essential areas such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), data analysis, computer packages, and online job applications. Participants are also introduced to sign language and a range of life skills aimed at preparing them for both employment and entrepreneurship.

According to organisers, the initiative is designed to bridge the digital skills gap among young people while enhancing their competitiveness in an increasingly technology-driven job market. The programme also incorporates career guidance sessions and motivational talks to help participants make informed decisions as they transition into various career paths.

Speaking during the ceremony, Kiambu County Director for Culture, Arts and Library Services, Kennedy Mwangi, commended the graduands for their commitment and urged them to make use of the skills acquired to transform their lives and communities.

He noted that the county government continues to invest in youth empowerment programmes through libraries and innovation hubs, positioning them as key centres for learning and digital inclusion.

The event was also attended by Thika West Sub-County Director of Education, Maurice Sifuna, who served as the chief guest. He encouraged the graduates to embrace continuous learning and adapt to the changing demands of the modern workplace.

“This programme is not just about completing a course, but about preparing you for the realities of the job market. The skills you have gained here should open doors for you,” he said.

Graduates expressed optimism about their future, citing the programme as a stepping stone towards employment opportunities and self-reliance. Some noted that the exposure to digital platforms and online job applications had significantly improved their confidence in seeking opportunities beyond traditional job markets.

The Library Innovation and Creative Hub has continued to attract increasing numbers of young people, reflecting growing interest in digital skills training within the county.

County officials say similar programmes will continue to be expanded to reach more youth, as part of broader efforts to address unemployment and promote innovation-driven growth.
