Murang’a officials urge community to support, guide children in conflict with the law for better rehabilitation

Murang’a judicial and child protection officers have called on families and communities to actively support children in conflict with the law. Speaking during a Court Users Committee visit to the Murang’a Children’s Remand Home, officials emphasized that guidance, love, and reintegration are key to shaping children’s futures.

Dr. Sheila Karimi Nyaga, Head of Station at Kenol Law Courts, highlighted the high number of sexual offence cases involving children, stressing the need for societal involvement in rehabilitation. Prosecutor Emelda Adera noted that diversion and plea bargain programs can reduce harmful stays in remand homes.

Children’s Officer Evelyn Miring’u urged parents to monitor and guide their children, warning that active engagement is critical in preventing crime. The Murang’a Remand Home currently houses 27 boys and six girls.

The annual Child Justice Month, celebrated every November, this year focuses on enhancing multi-agency collaboration and increasing resources to combat child abuse.
