Kiambu County Governor, Kimani Wamatangi, has embarked on a vigorous defense of his administration’s performance amidst escalating political tensions, accusing his opponents of deception and vowing to continue his transformative agenda for the county.
Addressing a gathering in Ituuru village, Gatundu South, Governor Wamatangi passionately asserted that his administration has surpassed the achievements of previous governments in Kiambu. He attributed the county’s progress to his leadership’s commitment to delivering tangible development despite encountering significant challenges upon assuming office.
“I just finished one and a half years since I took over the leadership of the county. I found most sectors in a big mess. If the former leadership did things right like we have been doing, we would be somewhere as a county,” Governor Wamatangi remarked.
In a scathing critique of his political adversaries, Wamatangi accused them of perpetuating falsehoods and engaging in smear campaigns to undermine his administration’s accomplishments. He singled out parliamentarians, alleging that they were neglecting their duties despite receiving ample resources from the national government.
“My opponents have mastered the art of deceiving people and that is why they will never tell you the truth,” Wamatangi declared.
Despite facing political headwinds, Governor Wamatangi highlighted key achievements, including the transformation of healthcare services at Gatundu Level Six hospital. He emphasized the delivery of quality medical equipment as evidence of his administration’s commitment to revolutionizing the healthcare sector.
However, amidst Wamatangi’s spirited defense of his administration, the political landscape in Kiambu remains fraught with tension. The recent skirmishes in Kiganjo village, Thika, which resulted in one fatality and numerous injuries, have heightened concerns about escalating violence and instability.
Local politician Njinji Murigi raised the issue of the Kiganjo skirmishes during the gathering, urging law enforcement agencies to swiftly apprehend those responsible. Central Kenya regional DCI boss Bethuel Oburu assured the public that investigations were underway and appealed for calm as authorities worked to restore order.
The May 17 incident, which erupted during a market stall allocation supervised by Kamenu Ward MCA Peter Mburu, involved clashes between rival political factions. Several MPs, including Alice Ng’ang’a, Kimani Ichung’wa, Gabriel Kagombe, and Elijah Njoroge, were caught in the violence, sustaining injuries along with their supporters.
As the political temperature rises in Kiambu, Governor Wamatangi’s defense of his administration’s record underscores the high stakes in the upcoming elections and the need for concerted efforts to maintain peace and stability in the county.
