Police in Kiambu County are investigating a disturbing case in Juja where a couple was arrested after the death of their three-year-old son under circumstances that have raised suspicion of assault.
According to investigators, the couple had taken the child to a local health facility, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. However, medical officers who examined the body raised concerns after observing visible injuries believed to have been caused by beating.
The parents reportedly told authorities that the child had died after falling, a claim that is now under scrutiny as police continue with investigations to establish the exact cause of death.
The body was moved to the mortuary pending a postmortem examination to determine the nature of the injuries and establish whether there was foul play.
The couple remains in custody as they await arraignment, with detectives expected to rely on forensic evidence and witness accounts to piece together the events leading to the child’s death.
The incident is part of a series of violent deaths and fatal cases reported across the country, which police say are being investigated in different counties including Migori, Kirinyaga, Kilifi, Meru and Siaya.
In Migori County, a tragic domestic incident in Kegonga, Kuria East, saw a man arrested after allegedly strangling a one-year-old girl during a family dispute. Police said the suspect turned violent during an argument and attacked the child, who later died.
In Kirinyaga County, a woman identified as Mary Njeri Chuka was allegedly killed by a man she had been cohabiting with following a domestic disagreement. The suspect was later traced and arrested in Kathanjuri location.
Meanwhile, in Kilifi County’s Kijipwa area, a 22-year-old man died after falling from the rooftop of a building under construction. Police said he had allegedly trespassed with intentions of stealing construction materials when the fatal fall occurred.
In Meru County, a 48-year-old man was found dead following a fire incident inside a house in Runogone. Authorities have since launched investigations to determine the cause of the fire and the circumstances surrounding his death.
In Siaya County, a tragic drowning incident was reported at Kogelo in Bondo Sub-county, where a 14-year-old Grade Seven pupil drowned in River Yala. The learner had reportedly gone to fetch water with other pupils before they decided to swim.
His colleagues raised an alarm after he was swept away, but efforts to rescue him were unsuccessful. A search operation involving residents and emergency teams continued, with only his clothes recovered by Thursday.
Police confirmed that at least three drowning cases were reported on the same day, underscoring growing safety concerns around water bodies and domestic environments across the country.
Investigations into all the incidents are ongoing.
