Thika Town MP Alice Ng’ang’a disburses Ksh 43.15 million bursaries

Thika Town Member of Parliament Alice Ng’ang’a has disbursed Ksh 43,150,000 in bursaries to support students in secondary and special schools across Ngoliba, Gatuanyaga and Kamenu wards.

The funds, issued under the National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF), are aimed at easing the financial burden on parents and guardians while ensuring learners remain in school.

Speaking during the disbursement exercise, the MP said the initiative is part of ongoing efforts to support access to education and reduce cases of school dropouts caused by lack of fees.

“This support is meant to ease the pressure on families and ensure that no child is sent home due to inability to pay school fees,” she said.

The bursaries target both secondary school students and learners in special schools, with emphasis on vulnerable families struggling to meet rising education costs.

Residents and parents from the three wards welcomed the move, saying the funds will go a long way in helping them keep their children in school, especially during a period when many households are facing economic challenges.

Education stakeholders in the area also lauded the initiative, noting that consistent bursary support plays a critical role in improving school attendance and academic performance.

The MP further announced that the bursary distribution exercise will continue, with residents from Township and Hospital wards expected to receive their allocations at the Salvation Army Hall.

“Kesho watu wa Township na Hospital tukutane Salvation Army Hall,” she said, urging beneficiaries to attend and access the support.

The disbursement highlights continued efforts by leaders in Thika Town to invest in education and support families through targeted financial assistance programmes.

Bursaries remain one of the key interventions used to bridge the gap for learners from disadvantaged backgrounds, ensuring equal access to education opportunities.

As the exercise continues, many families remain hopeful that sustained support will help reduce the strain of school fees and enable students to focus on their studies without interruption.

The move also reinforces the role of NG-CDF in addressing grassroots needs, particularly in the education sector, which remains a priority for many communities.
