Residents of Gatanga are living in fear after a third body of a young child was recovered from Kiama River at the Chomo–Kiria border, adding to an already disturbing series of discoveries in the area.
The latest recovery comes after two bodies a boy and a girl were first retrieved from the same river on Sunday, May 11. With the newest discovery, the total number of children recovered from the river has now risen to three, deepening concern among residents.
Authorities have confirmed that the identities of all three children have not yet been established. The bodies have been transferred to Kirwara Mortuary, where they are being preserved as identification efforts continue.
Families with missing children have been urged to visit the mortuary to assist in identifying the victims, as officials work to establish who the children are and where they came from.
The repeated recoveries have left the local community shocked, with many residents expressing fear and confusion over the circumstances surrounding the deaths. Some have raised concern that more bodies could still be in the river, prompting continued search operations along different points of the waterway.
Security teams and local administrators have since intensified efforts along Kiama River, combing through sections of the riverbank in search of any additional bodies or clues that could help explain the incidents.
At this stage, authorities have not provided details on what may have caused the deaths, and investigations remain ongoing. It is still unclear whether the cases are linked or separate incidents.
Residents have been urged to remain calm as authorities continue their work, with officials emphasizing the importance of allowing the identification and investigation processes to proceed without speculation.
Community leaders have also encouraged families with missing children to urgently visit Kirwara Mortuary to help bring clarity and closure to the situation.
As search and recovery operations continue, the Gatanga community remains on edge, awaiting answers as authorities work to determine what led to the tragic discoveries along Kiama River.
