The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has issued a strict 14-day deadline for all billboard owners, directional sign operators, and utility way-leave holders along national roads to renew permits and settle outstanding fees. Non-compliant structures risk demolition, the authority warned.
In a notice signed by Acting Director General Luka Kimeli on Tuesday, KeNHA clarified that the directive targets operators who already hold approvals but have not met renewal requirements. Permit renewals must be completed via KeNHA’s online portal.
“Failure to comply by Tuesday, February 24, 2026, will lead to enforcement actions, including demolition and recovery of costs from owners,” the notice read.
The authority also urged businesses and advertisers to verify the compliance status of any service providers before engaging them.
This announcement follows a separate seven-day notice to roadside traders along Thika Superhighway at Roysambu and Githurai to clear goods for new bus bays. KeNHA said the cleared areas will improve traffic flow, enhance safety, and reduce accidents along the corridor.
