Kiambu County Confirms Suspected Mpox Case, Urges Calm as Investigations Continue

The County Government of Kiambu has confirmed reports circulating on social media about a suspected case of Mpox (Monkeypox) within the county. In a press release issued by the Department of Health Services, Dr. Elias Maina, the County Executive Committee Member (CECM) in charge of Health Services, stated that the suspected case is currently under thorough laboratory investigation. A comprehensive update will be provided as soon as the official lab results are available.

Dr. Maina emphasized that there is no need for alarm at this stage. “The County Government, through the Department of Health Services, has activated all necessary measures to ensure the safety and well-being of our residents,” he assured.

Signs and Symptoms of Mpox

Mpox is a viral illness characterized by:

  • Fever
  • Headache
  • Muscle aches
  • Backache
  • Swollen lymph nodes
  • Chills
  • Exhaustion
  • A rash that often begins on the face and then spreads to other parts of the body, eventually forming pustules and scabs.

Prevention Measures

To reduce the risk of Mpox, the public is advised to:

  • Avoid close, skin-to-skin contact with anyone showing signs of a rash or sores.
  • Wash hands regularly with soap and water or use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
  • Avoid contact with animals that could harbor the virus, including sick or dead animals.
  • Use personal protective equipment, such as gloves and masks, when caring for a sick person.

The County Government of Kiambu is closely monitoring the situation and is prepared to respond promptly and effectively to any developments. Residents are urged to remain calm and follow official channels for updates and information.
