Youth in Kiambu have received a major boost in digital empowerment following the donation of computers by the Embassy of the Republic of Romania to the Ndumberi Jitume ICT Hub.
Her Excellency Gentiana Serbu, Ambassador of Romania to Kenya, officially visited the ICT hub where she fulfilled a previous commitment to support the institution with digital learning equipment aimed at strengthening youth capacity in information and communication technology.
The donation is expected to significantly enhance training at the hub by providing learners with access to modern computers, enabling them to acquire practical ICT skills that are increasingly essential in today’s job market.
Officials noted that the initiative will play a key role in equipping young people with digital competencies that can open up both local and global employment opportunities.
During the visit, the ambassador emphasized the importance of digital education in empowering young people and bridging the technology gap, particularly in communities where access to ICT resources remains limited.
The event also marked a significant milestone for students at the hub, as certificates were issued to learners who successfully completed ICT Stage 1 training.
The graduates were congratulated for their achievement, with leaders encouraging them to continue advancing their skills in order to remain competitive in the evolving digital economy.
Stakeholders present highlighted that such training programmes are essential in supporting Kenya’s broader agenda of digital transformation and youth empowerment.
The ceremony was attended by government officials including the Deputy County Commissioner Mr. Titus Macharia and Konza Technopolis Director Mr. Peter Muchendu, alongside students and members of the local community.
They praised the partnership between international stakeholders and local institutions, noting that such collaborations are key in strengthening education and innovation at the grassroots level.
Residents expressed appreciation for the initiative, saying the ICT hub has become an important resource centre for young people seeking digital skills training and employment readiness.
The Ndumberi Jitume ICT Hub continues to serve as a key platform for youth empowerment, offering training opportunities aimed at improving employability in the technology-driven economy.
Leaders reiterated their commitment to supporting similar initiatives that promote digital literacy and enhance access to ICT infrastructure for young people in the region.
The donation by the Romanian Embassy is expected to further strengthen ongoing efforts to position Kiambu youth as active participants in the global digital space.
