Kiambu Town MP Machua Waithaka has reaffirmed his commitment to expanding access to education after issuing Free Day Secondary School cheques to students in Kiambu Constituency.
The cheques were presented earlier today in partnership with the Kiambu Constituency NG-CDF Committee during an event attended by students, teachers, parents, and local administrators from St. Peter’s High School (Ustawi) and St. Anne & Joakim Secondary School.
The initiative, now in its second year, aims to ease the financial burden on families and ensure that every child within the constituency gets an opportunity to access secondary education regardless of their economic background.
Speaking during the event, Waithaka said education remains one of the key pillars of development in the constituency, adding that his leadership will continue prioritising programmes that empower young people through learning.
He noted that the Free Day Secondary School Initiative was introduced to eliminate barriers that force children out of school due to lack of fees.
“Our vision is to ensure all children access quality education for the betterment of their future,” the MP stated.
Waithaka also challenged parents, local administrators, and education stakeholders to work together in identifying children who have dropped out of school and facilitate their return to class now that education support is available.
He specifically urged area chiefs to actively participate in tracing affected learners and engaging families to ensure no child is left behind.
According to the legislator, students now have a responsibility to remain focused on their studies and take advantage of the opportunities being provided through the programme.
“Our children now have no excuse. Their responsibility is to study hard and work towards a brighter future,” he said.
The event brought together several leaders and education stakeholders, including Deputy County Commissioner Titus Macharia, school principals Mr. Mwaura and Mrs. Josephine Wanjau, teachers, parents, and residents from the area.
Parents who attended the event welcomed the programme, saying the support would significantly reduce the pressure many families face in keeping children in school amid the rising cost of living.
Education stakeholders have continued to emphasise the importance of partnerships between leaders, schools, and communities in improving school retention and academic performance.
The initiative is expected to benefit more learners across Kiambu Town Constituency as leaders intensify efforts to ensure every child remains in school and receives quality education.
Waithaka maintained that investing in education remains the strongest foundation for community progress and long-term development within the constituency.
