Kiambu Town drainage works advance ahead of tarmacking

Kiambu Town Member of Parliament Machua Waithaka has announced steady progress in the ongoing drainage works along the Maii-ini to John Kagai Road, as preparations intensify ahead of the planned tarmacking of the key transport corridor.

The legislator said the drainage construction is a critical phase of the project, aimed at ensuring the road is structurally sound and able to withstand weather-related damage once completed.

According to the MP, proper drainage remains a key foundation in road construction, noting that without it, newly tarmacked roads often deteriorate quickly due to water damage and poor runoff management.

He emphasized that the current works are part of a broader effort to improve road infrastructure within Kiambu Town, a rapidly growing urban centre where improved connectivity continues to be a major priority for residents and businesses.

Once completed, the Maii-ini to John Kagai Road is expected to ease movement for motorists, improve access to residential areas, and enhance transport efficiency for small businesses operating along the route.

Local residents have in recent years raised concerns over poor road conditions, especially during rainy seasons when flooding and muddy surfaces often disrupt transport and daily activities.

The ongoing drainage works are therefore seen as a crucial step toward addressing long-standing infrastructure challenges in the area.

The MP noted that the project reflects his administration’s commitment to delivering durable and sustainable infrastructure that meets the needs of the growing population.

He added that road development remains central to improving economic activity, especially for traders, boda boda operators, and public transport providers who rely heavily on accessible road networks.

The initiative is also expected to complement other ongoing development projects within Kiambu Town, including upgrades to feeder roads and improvement of urban drainage systems aimed at reducing flooding risks.

Residents have welcomed the progress, expressing optimism that the completion of the drainage works will mark a turning point in the long-awaited transformation of the road network in the area.

They have urged contractors to maintain quality standards and ensure timely completion of the works ahead of the tarmacking phase.

As the project continues, attention now shifts to the next stage of road construction, which will include surface preparation and eventual paving, expected to significantly improve mobility and economic activity within Kiambu Town.
