Excitement and renewed hope marked the reopening of Githioro ECDE Centre in Githunguri Municipality after learners officially moved into newly unveiled modern classrooms constructed under the leadership of Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi.
The upgraded classrooms are expected to improve learning conditions for young children while strengthening the county’s ongoing investment in early childhood education infrastructure across Kiambu.
Parents, teachers and local leaders who attended the unveiling praised the development, saying the improved classrooms will create a more comfortable, secure and child-friendly learning environment for learners beginning their educational journey.
Residents described the project as a major milestone for families in Githioro, noting that many ECDE centres in rapidly growing areas have struggled with congestion, ageing classrooms and limited learning facilities.
The new classrooms are designed to provide learners with a safer and more stimulating environment that supports concentration, creativity and foundational development during the early stages of education.
Teachers at the centre expressed optimism that the improved facilities will positively impact learner performance, attendance and overall classroom experience. They noted that a conducive environment plays a critical role in shaping children’s confidence and academic growth at an early age.
Parents also welcomed the project, saying the county government’s focus on ECDE education demonstrates commitment toward supporting young families and improving access to quality education at the grassroots level.
Governor Wamatangi’s administration has in recent months intensified infrastructure upgrades in schools, markets, roads and health facilities across various parts of Kiambu County as part of broader efforts to improve public services.
The latest development at Githioro ECDE Centre is expected to benefit not only current learners but also future generations of children within Githunguri Municipality.
Education stakeholders have consistently emphasised the importance of investing in ECDE learning, arguing that strong foundational education significantly contributes to improved long-term academic performance and social development.
The unveiling comes at a time when county governments across Kenya continue expanding investments in pre-primary education following the full transfer of ECDE functions to devolved units.
Local residents said the improved classrooms reflect growing attention toward grassroots development projects that directly impact families and children within local communities.
Many parents attending the event expressed gratitude over the upgraded facilities, saying the new learning spaces will motivate children and improve the overall school environment.
The project further highlights the county’s push to modernise public learning institutions while improving access to quality education services for young learners across Kiambu County.
