Kiambu expands access road rehabilitation programme

Kiambu County has intensified rehabilitation of access roads across several sub-counties as the county government rolls out ongoing infrastructure upgrades under the Boresha Bara Bara programme.

The road improvement works are currently underway in Witeithie Ward in Juja Sub-County, Ndeiya Ward in Limuru Sub-County and Ngenda Ward in Gatundu South, with residents expected to benefit from improved transport connectivity and easier movement within the affected areas.

Among the roads undergoing rehabilitation in Witeithie Ward are the PEFA Church–Muthara Road and the Holy Rosary Catholic–Witeithie Road, projects that residents say are expected to improve accessibility for motorists, businesses, schools and places of worship.

In Limuru Sub-County, the county government has also launched rehabilitation works on Githarane Road in Ndeiya Ward, as part of wider efforts aimed at upgrading local access roads that have remained in poor condition for years.

The Department of Roads says the programme is targeting several feeder roads across the county to improve transport efficiency, reduce travel challenges and support economic activities at the grassroots.

Residents in areas where the projects are ongoing have welcomed the move, saying improved roads will help ease transport difficulties, especially during rainy seasons when some routes become nearly impassable.

The ongoing works in Ngenda Ward, Gatundu South Sub-County, are also part of the countywide Boresha Bara Bara initiative, which seeks to enhance road infrastructure and improve connectivity between villages, trading centres and public institutions.

County officials say the rehabilitation programme is not only aimed at improving mobility but also supporting local businesses, agriculture and access to essential services.

The improved roads are expected to reduce vehicle maintenance costs, ease movement of farm produce and improve access to schools, hospitals and markets in the affected wards.

The county government has in recent months increased focus on infrastructure development projects as part of efforts to improve service delivery and stimulate economic growth at the local level.

Residents have repeatedly raised concerns over deteriorating access roads in some parts of the county, especially in fast-growing urban and peri-urban areas where population growth has increased pressure on existing infrastructure.

With the ongoing upgrades, the county administration says more wards are expected to benefit from road rehabilitation projects in the coming months as implementation of the Boresha Bara Bara programme continues across Kiambu.

Local leaders have also urged contractors to ensure quality work and timely completion of the projects to allow residents and businesses to fully benefit from the improved road network.

The rehabilitation works are expected to significantly improve movement and connectivity across the targeted sub-counties while boosting economic and social activities within local communities.
