DCI zeroes in on key suspects in murder of lawyer Kyalo Mbobu, says IG Kanja

Detectives investigating the killing of Nairobi-based lawyer Kyalo Mbobu have made a breakthrough, with the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) now following strong leads in the case.

Inspector General of Police, Japhet Koome Kanja, confirmed that the probe has picked up pace, and investigators are on what he described as a “hot trail” of suspects linked to the September 8 shooting incident along Magadi Road, where the advocate was fatally attacked.

According to IG Kanja, a dedicated homicide team under the DCI has intensified its operations, bringing renewed momentum to a case that has left the legal fraternity and the public demanding swift justice.

“We have a homicide team actively working the case and following promising leads. We are closing in on those responsible,” Kanja said.

Initially, three individuals were arrested in connection with the murder but were later released. However, police say the trio remains persons of interest and are still being monitored closely.

Investigators have now expanded their focus and are questioning at least seven individuals, including some of Mbobu’s family members, close colleagues, and business associates, as they piece together the final movements and potential motives behind the killing.

The gruesome nature of the murder and the prominent profile of the deceased lawyer have drawn national attention, with many in the legal community calling for accountability and expedited action.

As the DCI deepens its probe, authorities say they are confident that justice will be served, even as pressure mounts from Kenyans keen to see results.
