DP says leaders with no track record are misleading the region; cites key projects as proof of progress
Deputy President Prof. Kithure Kindiki has urged residents of Mt Kenya not to be misled by what he termed as “clueless politicians with no development agenda”, warning that abandoning the government would be a step backwards.
Speaking during a South Imenti Constituency Economic Empowerment Engagement at Nkubu Stadium in Meru County on Friday, Kindiki criticized a section of former leaders who he said are now going around the region discrediting the government despite having done little while in power.
“When they were in power, they never bothered to push for any development for the people in the region. After losing their seats, they are lecturing us and telling us to abandon government for uncertainty and unknown. We cannot and we will not allow that to happen,” said the DP.
He defended the Kenya Kwanza administration’s track record in the region, highlighting major projects already completed and others underway.
Key among them is the upgrading of Meru Referral Hospital to Level 6, which will significantly improve access to specialized healthcare services for local residents. He also cited the ongoing construction of the Gakoromone Modern Market in Meru town—budgeted at KSh800 million, making it one of the largest in the country.
Kindiki further noted the completion of the long-stalled Nkubu-Uruku Road, the redesigning of the Nithi Bridge at a cost of KSh8 billion, and the elevation of Mitunguu National Polytechnic, alongside plans to build Mitunguu Airport in South Imenti.
“We are not supporting the President just for the sake of it, we have seen what he has done and what he has planned for the region. That is why we are saying he should serve for two terms,” Kindiki said.
He defended President Ruto’s commitment to the region, particularly in funding the Nithi Bridge, which he said had been ignored by previous administrations.
“The previous governments didn’t fund the redesigning of Nithi Bridge and no one threatened them with one term. But now President Ruto has allocated Sh8 billion for its construction and some are telling us to vote him out. It’s not possible. The President will serve for two terms,” he declared.
Prof. Kindiki assured that all ongoing projects in Meru will be completed on time, urging residents to ignore leaders who, he said, offer “lies and empty rhetoric” despite having had the opportunity to deliver in the past.
“I cannot be a DP and here in Meru, the President has no support. I will do everything possible to make sure he is respected and supported because we have seen what he has done and what he will do,” he added.
