Samuel Muchina wins UDA Ol Kalou ticket

Samuel Muchina Nyaga will fly the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) flag in the upcoming Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election after emerging victorious in a hotly contested party nomination exercise held on Friday.

Muchina secured the UDA ticket after garnering 3,221 votes in the primaries, narrowly defeating George Wambugu Kanuri who followed closely with 3,077 votes in a race that attracted ten aspirants.

The nomination exercise concluded at Mumbi Primary School where UDA National Elections Board member Jimmy Kahindi officially presented Muchina with the party certificate, confirming him as the ruling party’s candidate for the July 16 by-election.

The closely fought contest reflected growing political interest in the Ol Kalou seat, with aspirants battling to secure the support of the party’s grassroots members ahead of the highly anticipated by-election.

Peter Njoroge Mugo finished third with 1,049 votes while Mary Nyokabi Kamau garnered 406 votes. Peter Chuchu Njuguna received 158 votes, Maina Kiambati 96, Joseph Ndirangu 90, Ezekiah Kamweru 66, Daniel Ndungu 52 and Stanley Mwangi 43 votes.

Following his victory, attention now shifts to the main campaigns as political parties intensify preparations for what is expected to become a major political showdown in the Mt Kenya region.

The Ol Kalou by-election is already attracting national political attention, with analysts viewing it as a test of political influence and party strength within the region ahead of future political contests.

UDA will now seek to consolidate its support in the constituency as opposition parties prepare to challenge the ruling party in the race.

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) is also expected to field a candidate in the by-election, setting the stage for a potentially fierce political battle.

DCP has already notified the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) of plans to conduct party primaries as it moves to identify its preferred candidate for the seat.

The upcoming contest is expected to draw intense political interest from leaders across the country, especially within the Mt Kenya region where parties continue positioning themselves ahead of future elections.

Residents of Ol Kalou are now expected to witness heightened political campaigns in the coming weeks as candidates begin selling their manifestos and seeking support from voters across the constituency.

The by-election comes at a time when political alignments within the region continue to evolve, making the contest one of the closely watched political races this year.
