Residents of Rainbow, Agape, Bypass and other villages in Gatong’ora Ward, Ruiru Sub-County, are finally set to enjoy smoother rides and better access to essential services as the government embarks on rebuilding the derelict Rainbow–Juja Farm road.
The 27-kilometre stretch, which has remained in poor condition for years, is now earmarked for a complete overhaul under the supervision of the Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KeRRA) in collaboration with the Kiambu County Government.
The road, once celebrated as a key link connecting several villages to the Eastern Bypass, fell into ruin shortly after its botched construction during the tenure of former governor Ferdinand Waititu. Residents have since endured massive potholes, flooding, and sections rendered completely impassable, especially during rainy seasons.
For years, the impassable road has disrupted livelihoods from farmers unable to transport produce to traders losing customers due to inaccessibility. Many residents also complained of the challenges in reaching hospitals and schools.
Speaking during a public participation forum, Gatong’ora Ward MCA Dan Gitau assured residents that the new project will be implemented to the highest standards, with transparency and community oversight to prevent a repeat of past mistakes.
“We want this road to be done right this time. It must meet modern standards and truly serve the people of Ruiru,” said Gitau.
Once completed, the upgraded road is expected to boost local trade, ease transport costs, and attract new investments in the rapidly growing Juja and Ruiru zones. The improved connectivity will also provide an alternative route to the Eastern Bypass, helping to decongest traffic heading toward Jomo Kenyatta International Airport and neighbouring towns.
Residents have welcomed the project as a long-awaited sign of progress. For many, the reconstruction of the Rainbow–Juja Farm road represents not just infrastructure improvement but the restoration of dignity and opportunity after years of neglect.
