Former First Lady Mama Ngina Kenyatta on Thursday, October 30, paid a heartfelt visit to the home of the late former Prime Minister Raila Amolo Odinga in Bondo, Siaya County, to offer condolences to Mama Ida Odinga and her family.
Mama Ngina was accompanied by members of her family, including her son Muhoho Kenyatta and daughter Kristina Pratt, in a show of solidarity with the Odinga family as the nation continues to mourn the opposition leader.
In a statement, the Raila Amollo Odinga Foundation expressed gratitude for the visit, describing it as a deeply moving gesture.
“Thank you Former First Lady, Mama Ngina Kenyatta, and your family for joining the nation in mourning and coming home to commiserate with Mama Ida Odinga and the family of the late Prime Minister, Raila Amolo Odinga,” read the statement.
The visit by the Kenyatta family follows that of former President Uhuru Kenyatta, who earlier in the week visited Opoda Farm and the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Mausoleum to pay tribute to his longtime friend and political ally.
Photos shared from the visit showed Mama Ngina warmly received by Mama Ida and members of the Odinga family.
Earlier, Margaret Nyokabi, widow of the late Nyeri Governor Nderitu Gachagua, and her daughter Mercy, also visited the Odinga family home to deliver their condolences.
The late Raila Odinga, who passed away on October 15, was buried at Kang’o Ka Jaramogi in Siaya County, where several dignitaries joined Kenyans in celebrating his political legacy and lifelong struggle for democracy.
Meanwhile, Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Nassir revealed that doctors from the Sreedhareeyam Ayurvedic Hospital in Kerala, India where Raila was receiving treatment have arrived in Kenya to pay their last respects.
Nassir, who received Raila’s daughter, Rosemary Odinga, and the visiting doctors at his Mombasa office, described their gesture as “a touching tribute to a man whose influence transcended borders.”
“The global outpouring of love for Baba reflects his extraordinary journey one defined by courage, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to justice and humanity,” Nassir said.
