Kiambu Town MP Machua Waithaka has urged parents and guardians to encourage Form Four leavers to enroll for free ICT training at the Jitume ICT Hub in Ndumberi as part of efforts to equip young people with digital skills.
The legislator said the ongoing ICT Stage 1 classes at the hub are designed to help youth gain practical knowledge that can prepare them for opportunities in the growing digital economy.
Speaking on the programme, Machua emphasized the need for young people to remain productive after completing secondary school instead of staying idle at home.
He noted that technology and digital skills are becoming increasingly important in modern job markets and online business opportunities, making ICT training essential for the younger generation.
According to the MP, the initiative aims to empower Gen Z youth within Kiambu Town Constituency by exposing them to digital literacy, online learning, and emerging technology opportunities at no cost.
Machua encouraged families to take advantage of the free programme, saying many young people could benefit from learning computer skills, internet use, and other digital tools that are increasingly shaping employment and entrepreneurship.
The MP added that the Jitume ICT Hub was established to bridge the digital gap among youth and create more opportunities for innovation, self-employment, and career development.
Residents in Ndumberi and surrounding areas have welcomed the programme, describing it as a timely initiative for school leavers seeking productive engagement after completing their Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations.
Some parents said the free training would help reduce idleness among youth while exposing them to valuable skills that can improve their future prospects.
The programme comes at a time when digital skills continue to play a major role in education, business, communication, and access to online jobs both locally and internationally.
Machua further called on young people to embrace technology positively and use available training opportunities to improve their competitiveness in the job market.
He maintained that empowering youth through education and digital literacy remains one of the most effective ways of addressing unemployment and unlocking economic opportunities within the constituency.
The MP also assured residents that his office would continue supporting programmes aimed at empowering young people through education, technology, and skills development.
As enrollment continues at the Ndumberi hub, local leaders have expressed optimism that the initiative will help nurture a more skilled and digitally prepared generation capable of taking advantage of opportunities in the modern economy.
