Kiambu County recorded an impressive showing at the 12th edition of the Kenya Inter-Counties Sports and Cultural Association (KICOSCA) Games in Siaya County, finishing among the top-performing teams after securing medals across multiple disciplines.
The week-long championships brought together counties from across Kenya for contests in athletics, indoor games, ball games and cultural performances. Kiambu athletes demonstrated discipline, teamwork and competitive flair, earning the county recognition on the national stage.
Kiambu scooped gold medals in Scrabble, Squash, Men’s Discus Throw and Men’s Shot Put. The women’s 400-metre race also brought home gold, while the women’s 4×100-metre relay team clinched silver. The women’s 100-metre team secured bronze, with the men’s 4×100 relay finishing fifth.
Sports Director Samuel Wachira praised the contingent for displaying consistency and commitment throughout the tournament.
“Our teams have shown remarkable commitment and discipline. Every medal represents months of hard work from both athletes and coaches,” he said.
Women’s 400m champion Jane Mwihaki credited teamwork and steady preparation for her win, describing her victory as a defining moment for her career.
The men’s volleyball team and the table tennis squad added to the medal haul with silver finishes. In cultural events, Kiambu’s Cultural group took second place, while the Folksong team finished third. The scrabble team registered another strong showing by placing fourth in an additional category.
Sports officials attributed the strong performance to the county’s growing investment in sports development and called for further support to nurture young talent.
“Kiambu has immense potential. With improved facilities and stronger youth programmes, we can field even more competitive teams in future games,” one official said.
Coaches encouraged young athletes to join upcoming training camps and inter-ward competitions, noting that early exposure helps sharpen skills and build confidence.
Preparations for next year’s KICOSCA Games are already underway, with the county planning to scale up mentorship and expand coaching capacity across various disciplines.
