People’s Liberation Party (PLP) leader Martha Karua has rallied young leaders in Kiambu County to step forward and actively shape the country’s political future ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Speaking during a youth engagement forum in Gachie on the outskirts of Nairobi, Karua challenged the next generation of leaders to embrace responsibility and drive meaningful change, noting that Kenya’s progress depends on bold and principled leadership.
Addressing a gathering of youth aspirants and supporters, the presidential hopeful emphasised that leadership is not handed out but earned through commitment, courage and service to the people.
“Kenya will not change by chance. It will change when leaders make a deliberate decision to take responsibility,” she said.
Karua’s message centred on the need for young people to move beyond political spectatorship and take an active role in shaping governance. She urged them to organise, participate in leadership processes and remain guided by integrity.
Her remarks come at a time when political activity is gradually intensifying across the country, with leaders positioning themselves and building alliances ahead of the 2027 polls.
The PLP leader also pointed to key challenges facing the country, including corruption, high taxation, misuse of public resources and declining standards in critical sectors such as education and healthcare.
She warned that continued public apathy could worsen the situation, stressing that the next election presents an opportunity for Kenyans to demand accountability and better leadership.
“The country cannot afford silence or indifference. The choices we make now will determine the future we build,” she noted.
Karua further underscored the importance of nurturing a new generation of leaders who are committed to transparency, accountability and service. She said young leaders have a critical role to play in restoring public trust in leadership and institutions.
According to her, empowering youth to take up leadership positions is key to addressing long-standing governance challenges and ensuring inclusive development.
The engagement in Kiambu reflects a broader strategy by political leaders to connect with young voters, who form a significant portion of the electorate.
As the country moves closer to the 2027 elections, calls for youth involvement continue to gain momentum, with leaders emphasising the need for fresh ideas and renewed commitment to national development.
Karua’s message to the youth was clear—Kenya’s future will be shaped by those willing to step forward, take responsibility and lead with integrity.
