Kiambu Town MP Hon. Machua Waithaka has renewed his call for parents to ensure all school-going children remain in class as the constituency marks the second year of implementing its Free Day Secondary School Education programme.
The legislator said the initiative was introduced to eliminate financial barriers that prevent children from accessing education and to ensure more learners remain in school.
Speaking while reflecting on the progress of the programme, Machua said no child should be out of school now that day secondary education support is already in place within the constituency.
He warned that action would be taken against individuals found loitering instead of attending school, directing local chiefs to enforce existing laws on compulsory basic education.
According to the MP, education remains one of the strongest tools for fighting poverty, inequality, and social challenges affecting young people in the community.
Machua emphasized that his leadership remains committed to ensuring every child within Kiambu Constituency accesses quality education in line with constitutional requirements.
He cited Article 53 of the Constitution of Kenya, which guarantees every child the right to free and compulsory basic education.
The MP said the constituency’s free secondary school programme has already helped many families struggling with the rising cost of education, easing pressure on parents while improving school attendance among learners.
Education stakeholders within the constituency have welcomed the initiative, saying it has played a key role in reducing absenteeism and increasing access to learning opportunities for vulnerable students.
The programme comes at a time when many families across the country continue facing economic pressure, making education support programmes increasingly important in keeping children in school.
Local leaders have also continued encouraging parents to work closely with schools and education authorities to ensure students remain focused on learning and personal development.
Machua further urged community leaders, teachers, and parents to collaborate in mentoring young people and protecting them from negative influences that may affect their future.
Residents have largely welcomed the continued investment in education, describing it as a significant step towards empowering children and improving long-term development within the constituency.
The MP maintained that education remains the greatest equaliser in society and pledged continued support for programmes aimed at strengthening access to quality learning opportunities for all children in Kiambu Town Constituency.
