Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has formally welcomed former Law Society of Kenya (LSK) President Faith Odhiambo into his Linda Mwananchi movement, marking a notable political development ahead of the next General Election.
Odhiambo, a prominent lawyer and outspoken critic of government policy, was on Tuesday pictured alongside Sifuna and other members of the movement during a public appearance next to a campaign caravan. Her presence has since sparked political discussion over whether she is making a transition from legal advocacy into active politics.
Sifuna publicly confirmed her inclusion in the movement, sharing images of the moment and welcoming her in what he described as a growing coalition focused on citizen-centred leadership.
“Full parade to welcome Madam President. Welcome to Linda Mwananchi Faith Odhiambo,” Sifuna stated in a post accompanying the images.
However, it remains unclear whether Odhiambo’s involvement signals a formal entry into elective politics or a broader alignment with civic advocacy efforts tied to the movement. Her appearance alongside political figures is already drawing attention within legal and political circles.
Odhiambo has built a reputation as a strong voice on constitutionalism, human rights, and governance accountability. Just recently, she was among legal professionals who publicly weighed in on the High Court’s ruling concerning the impeachment of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
In her remarks, she raised constitutional concerns over aspects of the judgment, particularly around the right to a fair hearing. While the court found that the Senate had violated Article 50 of the Constitution by declining to grant Gachagua an adjournment, it still upheld the impeachment and awarded constitutional damages.
Odhiambo questioned whether such a violation should have led to a different legal outcome, warning that setting a precedent where constitutional breaches are only compensated financially may weaken institutional accountability in future impeachment proceedings.
She argued that the right to a fair hearing is a substantive constitutional safeguard and not merely a procedural requirement, emphasizing the long-term implications of the ruling on Kenya’s constitutional order.
Beyond her legal commentary, Odhiambo has also been active in governance debates. In July 2024, she declined a presidential appointment to the Public Debt Audit Task Force, citing concerns over duplication of roles and constitutional mandate conflicts with existing oversight institutions.
Her decision at the time was aligned with LSK’s position that the task force risked undermining the Auditor-General’s constitutional authority.
As political alignments continue to take shape ahead of 2027, Odhiambo’s move into Sifuna’s political camp is expected to draw further scrutiny, especially regarding how legal voices are increasingly intersecting with Kenya’s evolving political landscape.
