Residents of Ting’ang’a Ward in Kiambu sub-county have formally petitioned the County Government of Kiambu, seeking the opening of vital feeder roads that remain inaccessible to the public.
The petition, tabled by Hon. Lawrence Mwaura Napoleon, the area Member of County Assembly (MCA), highlights the growing concerns of the community, particularly those living in the villages of Nyihia Hwai, Wanugu, and Jivanjee.
While presenting the petition, Hon. Mwaura noted that the lack of accessible roads has severely impacted the residents’ ability to reach essential services in Rongo Trading Center. This central hub serves as a crucial point for various public amenities, including Ting’ang’a Secondary School, Benson Njau Primary School, Divine Mercy Catholic Church, P.C.E.A Church, and the local Chief’s camp.
“The community is unable to access these critical institutions, forcing them to walk long distances or trespass through private land,” Hon. Mwaura stated. He emphasized that despite the community’s efforts to secure public access roads, their attempts have been unsuccessful, and the issue is not currently under legal dispute.
Hon. Mwaura called on the County Assembly, through its Committee on Transport, Public Works, and Infrastructure, to investigate and ensure the opening of public feeder roads in Kagongo and Ngaita Locations.
The petition requests the Committee to determine whether public access roads exist from the affected villages to Rongo Trading Center and to engage the relevant county departments in addressing the issue.
The petition has been referred to the Transport, Public Works, and Infrastructure Committee. The Committee’s Chairperson, Hon. Peter Mburu, requested a 60-day period to investigate the matter and report back to the Assembly.
