Thika Town is set to host President William Ruto for the commissioning of several key development projects in an event expected to boost infrastructure and service delivery in the area.
The visit, hosted by Thika Town MP Alice Ng’ang’a, will see the Head of State officially launch multiple projects cutting across sports, housing, security and market development.
Among the projects lined up for commissioning is the Kimuchu Sports Academy, which is expected to nurture local talent and provide young people with opportunities in sports development. The facility is part of broader efforts to empower youth and reduce unemployment through structured programmes.
The President will also commission the NTSA inspection centre in Thika, aimed at improving vehicle inspection services and enhancing road safety in the region. The facility is expected to ease congestion and improve efficiency for motorists seeking compliance services.
Market infrastructure is also a key focus, with Gatuanyaga Market and Ngoingwa Market set to be officially opened. The markets are designed to provide traders with modern, organised spaces to conduct business, boosting local commerce and supporting small-scale entrepreneurs.
In the housing sector, the government will launch affordable housing projects in UTI and Huduma areas, part of the national agenda to provide decent and affordable homes to Kenyans. The projects are expected to create jobs while addressing the housing deficit in urban centres.
Security has also been prioritised, with the commissioning of the Ngoingwa Police Divisional Headquarters. The facility is expected to strengthen security operations and improve response times, enhancing safety for residents and businesses in the area.
Additionally, the upgrading of Maria Magdalena Road is set to be unveiled, improving connectivity within Thika and easing movement for residents and traders.
The event underscores the government’s continued push to roll out development projects at the grassroots level, with leaders emphasising the importance of equitable distribution of resources.
Residents and local leaders are expected to attend the event, which is scheduled for Friday, March 27, 2026, marking a significant moment for Thika as it positions itself for growth and improved public services.
