Kiambu County has emerged as a model for healthcare service delivery in Kenya, attracting a delegation of Ugandan hospital CEOs and managers for a benchmarking visit focused on improving service efficiency and healthcare financing.
The delegation, led by Dr. Paul Emmanuel Batiibwe, Executive Director of Mubende Regional Referral Hospital, spent the day at Thika Level 5 Hospital, touring key departments and observing operational practices. Dr. Batiibwe said Kiambu was chosen after it ranked among the top-performing counties in the country, particularly in delivering quality medical care and achieving positive patient outcomes.
During the visit, the team examined critical service areas, including diagnostic facilities equipped with MRI, CT scan, and mammography machines. They also toured the maternity wing, newborn unit, and other essential hospital departments, engaging with frontline staff to understand daily operations and patient care strategies.
“The purpose of this visit is to benchmark against a county that has consistently shown strong performance in healthcare delivery,” Dr. Batiibwe told Kiambu TV. “We aim to learn how Kiambu has managed to maintain high standards and achieve measurable outcomes for patients.”
Hospital staff took the delegation through the hospital’s workflow, demonstrating how service efficiency and patient-centered care are integrated into daily operations. Discussions also touched on healthcare financing models and strategies that ensure sustainability while maintaining quality care.
County officials said the visit reflects Kiambu’s commitment to showcasing its healthcare achievements and fostering regional cooperation. “We are proud to share our experiences with colleagues from Uganda. It is a testament to the hard work of our medical teams and the county’s investment in modern healthcare infrastructure,” a Kiambu County health officer stated.
The benchmarking exercise is expected to contribute to knowledge exchange and strengthen ties between Kenyan and Ugandan health institutions. By observing Kiambu’s systems, Ugandan hospital managers can adopt best practices to enhance service delivery and improve patient outcomes in their facilities.
Kiambu County continues to position itself as a leader in healthcare excellence, combining modern medical technology with skilled personnel to deliver reliable and effective care. The visit underscores the county’s rising influence in shaping healthcare standards regionally, offering a blueprint for other counties seeking to improve their health systems.
