Several community groups in Lari Constituency have received a major boost following the disbursement of empowerment support under the National Government Affirmative Action Fund.
The initiative, spearheaded by Kiambu Woman Representative Anne Muratha, targeted organised groups in Kamburu Ward with the aim of strengthening grassroots enterprises and promoting self-reliance among residents.
During the exercise, Kamburu Welfare Group and Nyamuthanga Welfare Group each received fully equipped tent and chair packages, including 100 chairs per group. The equipment is expected to enable the groups to venture into event hire services, creating a sustainable income stream while supporting local community functions.
Speaking during the distribution, Muratha emphasised the importance of practical empowerment, noting that such initiatives are designed to translate support into real economic opportunities for beneficiaries.
“These packages will help groups generate income through event hire services while also supporting social functions within the community,” she said.
In addition to the equipment, four groups from Lari Constituency received financial support in the form of cheques worth Ksh100,000 each. The beneficiaries include Nyambari Market Traders, Gichuhiki Self Help Group, Magina Widows Self Help Group and Kiganda Self Help Group.
The funds are expected to support small businesses, enhance savings and investment initiatives, and uplift vulnerable members of the community, particularly widows and low-income earners.
Muratha noted that the NGAAF programme remains focused on building local economies by equipping community groups with tools and capital to grow sustainable ventures.
Beyond the disbursement, the Woman Representative challenged young people, especially men, to embrace available opportunities and engage in productive activities.
She urged youth to explore income-generating ventures, including small-scale farming and entrepreneurship, instead of remaining idle.
“Our young people must take initiative and utilise the opportunities available to them. Even small projects, if managed well, can provide steady income,” she said.
The NGAAF programme continues to play a key role in supporting women, youth and persons with disabilities by promoting economic participation and reducing dependency.
Residents in Lari have welcomed the initiative, expressing optimism that the support will help improve livelihoods and strengthen community-based enterprises.
The empowerment drive reflects ongoing efforts to ensure development reaches grassroots communities and delivers tangible benefits to ordinary wananchi.
