Kiambu advertises 60 ECDE teaching positions

The County Government of Kiambu has announced 60 vacancies for Early Childhood Development and Education (ECDE) teachers in a move aimed at strengthening learning in public pre-primary schools across the county.

According to an advertisement released by the Kiambu County Public Service Board (CPSB), successful applicants will serve as ECDE Teacher III under Job Group CPSB 11(H) within the Department of Education, Culture, Gender and Social Services.

The recruitment exercise comes as the county government continues implementing reforms and infrastructure development programmes targeting the ECDE sector under Governor Kimani Wamatangi’s administration.

Applicants interested in the positions are required to possess a Diploma in Early Childhood Development and Education, registration by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC), computer literacy skills, and at least two years of relevant work experience.

The county government has directed applicants to submit their applications physically at the CPSB offices in Thika before the May 23, 2026 deadline.

The latest recruitment is expected to boost staffing levels in ECDE centres across Kiambu as the county continues expanding and modernising learning facilities.

Governor Wamatangi has repeatedly stated that improving early childhood education remains one of the county’s major priorities, arguing that quality learning environments at an early stage play a key role in shaping children’s future academic performance.

According to the county boss, the 524 ECDE centres inherited after devolution were in poor condition, with many schools struggling with leaking roofs, inadequate classrooms, and poor sanitation infrastructure.

Over the last three years, Kiambu County says it has completed more than 247 model ECDE centres while additional projects remain under construction in different parts of the county.

The modern facilities include PP1 and PP2 classrooms, teachers’ offices, child-friendly toilets, and playgrounds designed to create a better learning environment for young learners.

“We are constructing new model ECDE centres and renovating existing ones to provide modern facilities similar to private kindergartens,” Wamatangi said during the rollout of the programme.

The governor has also defended the county’s “Maziwa Freshi na Wamatangi” school feeding programme, which provides porridge, eggs, and milk to learners in public ECDE centres.

According to county data, enrolment in ECDE centres has increased from about 32,000 learners to over 39,000 following the introduction of the feeding programme.

County officials say the ongoing recruitment of teachers will further improve service delivery as more children continue enrolling in public ECDE centres across Kiambu.
