Kikuyu MCA Kamau Boro unveils transformed Kikuyu Bus Park

Kikuyu MCA Kamau James Boro has highlighted the transformation of the Kikuyu New Bus Park, saying the project has significantly improved the working environment for traders, commuters, and residents within the town.

According to the MCA, the bus park was previously dusty, poorly organised, and unconducive for business operations, making it difficult for traders to attract customers and operate effectively.

Boro said the county government and local leadership initiated a deliberate transformation programme in 2022 aimed at modernising the facility and improving accessibility, sanitation, and safety within the area.

The project included installation of cabro paving and storm water drainage systems to address dust and flooding challenges that had affected traders and commuters for years.

Street lighting was also installed to improve security and visibility within the bus park, especially during early morning and evening hours when many traders and passengers use the facility.

In addition, the project saw the construction of modern kiosks to provide better business spaces for traders operating within the area.

A new ablution block is also under construction as part of the ongoing improvements, with the MCA noting that it remains the only major section yet to be completed.

“Our commitment remains creating a clean, dignified, and business-friendly environment that empowers traders and supports economic growth in Kikuyu,” Boro stated.

The transformation programme further included upgrading the stretch between the Police Station and Salvation Army area, a route frequently used by residents and pupils from Kikuyu Township Primary School accessing the bus park.

The MCA noted that improving the road section was critical in enhancing safety and accessibility for school-going children and members of the public.

Boro also pointed to reforms introduced in 2023 while serving as Vice Chairperson of the Finance Committee, saying new provisions were included in the Finance Act to streamline and regulate levies charged to traders allocated stalls within the bus park.

According to him, the measures were aimed at cushioning small-scale traders and creating a fair business environment for entrepreneurs operating within Kikuyu town.

Traders and residents have welcomed the improvements, saying the changes have enhanced business activities and improved the general appearance of the bus park.

The project is part of broader efforts to modernise trading centres and public transport infrastructure within Kikuyu as leaders continue focusing on improving economic activities and public service delivery.

Residents now hope the remaining works, particularly the ablution block, will be completed soon to fully transform the facility into a modern and efficient business hub.
