Deputy President Kithure Kindiki Urges Members Of Clergy to Correct The Government With “Love”

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has urged members of clergy to correct the government with “Love” while addressing them at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) during the National Evangelic Revival on Tuesday 15 April 2025. The event brought clerics from all 47 counties, emphasizing the importance of collaboration between the government and religious institutions.

In his speech, Kindiki highlighted the complementary roles of the church and the state, stressing that they are not in competition but rather serve the same people in different capacities. He described the church as a vital partner in addressing national challenges, including social evils such as crime and corruption. The Deputy President acknowledged the spiritual contributions of the clergy, attributing Kenya’s progress to their prayers and intercessions.

“There is no contest between the king and the prophets,” he said. “These are separate offices with different responsibilities that should support each other, not compete.”

Kindiki urged religious leaders to hold the government accountable but to do so with love and understanding. He emphasized that constructive criticism is welcome, as the government is committed to listening and making necessary adjustments.

“Please correct us when we go astray, but correct us in love,” he appealed, reiterating the administration’s openness to feedback.

The Deputy President also addressed the issue of property disputes faced by churches, assuring the clergy that the government is dedicated to resolving land registration challenges. He pledged support for churches struggling to acquire legitimate title deeds, recognizing the critical role they play in community development.

Kindiki’s remarks come amid growing tensions between religious institutions and political leaders, with some churches banning political speeches and donations during worship services to maintain the sanctity of their spaces. He acknowledged these frictions, warning that discord between the government and faith groups is unhealthy for the nation.
