The legal fraternity is in mourning following the killing of Nairobi lawyer Kyalo Mbobu in a drive-by shooting on Tuesday evening along Magadi Road near Galleria Brookside.
Mbobu, a seasoned advocate with over 30 years of practice, was gunned down at around 7:30 p.m. by an armed assailant on a motorcycle who fled the scene immediately after the attack.
Law Society of Kenya (LSK) President Faith Odhiambo condemned the incident, terming it a “premeditated assassination” and demanding urgent investigations by security agencies.
“The legal profession cannot function effectively under constant threat,” she said, warning that delays in action would erode public confidence in the government’s ability to protect citizens.
Mbobu, a former Chairperson of the Political Parties Dispute Tribunal and a University of Nairobi law lecturer, was celebrated for mentoring young lawyers and authoring widely referenced legal texts on evidence law.
The LSK described his death as a tragic loss for the legal profession and the country, urging the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to act swiftly to bring the perpetrators to justice.
Odhiambo further linked the murder to the wider insecurity gripping the nation, accusing criminals of operating with impunity and urging state agencies to restore public safety.
