Nairobi Senator and ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna has rejected his removal from office, calling the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) decision unlawful and unprocedural.

Speaking on Thursday, February 12, at Serena Hotel in Nairobi, Sifuna insisted he remains the duly elected Secretary General and vowed to continue serving in the position. He said the NEC’s move violated the ODM constitution and principles of natural justice.

Sifuna pointed to his opposition to supporting President William Ruto’s 2027 reelection as a key reason for his dismissal, asserting that internal differences should not justify unlawful actions. He also criticized the installation of ODM Party Leader Oburu Odinga, describing it as unconstitutional.

Accompanied by senior party members, including Deputy Party Leader Godfrey Osotsi and Siaya Governor James Orengo, Sifuna highlighted his commitment to a fair, democratic Kenya and urged delegates to uphold proper procedures ahead of the ODM National Delegates Convention (NDC) scheduled for March 26.

The standoff underscores growing factional tensions within ODM as party leaders and delegates prepare to elect officials while navigating internal disagreements.
