Residents of Nairobi and nearby counties should prepare for hotter and drier days in the coming week, according to a new forecast from the Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD).
The weatherman projects that the capital will experience light morning showers in a few areas on Friday, October 10, before temperatures climb to between 26°C and 30°C during the day. At night, temperatures are expected to drop to between 6°C and 9°C.
From Saturday, October 11, to Monday, October 13, Nairobi will see cloudy mornings that will gradually clear, giving way to sunny and dry afternoons. Only a few isolated showers are expected in parts of the city.
Neighboring counties in the Highlands East of the Rift Valley — including Murang’a, Nyeri, Embu, and Kirinyaga — are also expected to experience similar weather patterns, with light morning rains followed by warm and sunny afternoons.
However, regions in Western Kenya, the Rift Valley, and around the Lake Victoria Basin are likely to experience afternoon showers and thunderstorms. Daytime temperatures in these areas could reach 30°C, while nights may cool down to about 9°C.
Meanwhile, the Coastal and North-Eastern regions will remain largely sunny, though some parts could receive isolated rainfall accompanied by gusty winds and occasional thunderstorms, particularly along the coastline.
In the Southeastern lowlands — including Machakos, Makueni, Kitui, Kajiado, and Taita Taveta — the weather is expected to stay mostly sunny throughout the day, with only a few light showers in select areas.
Along the coast, residents should expect cloudy nights and warm days, with daytime temperatures ranging between 31°C and 32°C, while night temperatures may fall between 11°C and 14°C.
The department has urged residents, especially those living in areas prone to strong winds and lightning storms, to remain alert and take necessary precautions during short rainy intervals.
