Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru has reaffirmed her administration’s commitment to improving healthcare delivery across the county, with a focus on expanding dialysis services for patients battling kidney complications.
Speaking during her address to the County Assembly, Governor Waiguru announced that five new dialysis machines have been fully installed and are operational at the Kerugoya County Referral Hospital. Two older units were retired after reaching the end of their safe operational lifespan a move aimed at maintaining the highest standards of patient safety.
She revealed plans to extend dialysis services to Kianyaga and Sagana hospitals to ease congestion at Kerugoya and ensure residents can access specialised treatment closer to home.
“Our goal is to ensure that every Kirinyaga resident receives quality and affordable healthcare without travelling long distances,” the governor said, adding that the county has been steadily increasing its health budget to support infrastructure, staff recruitment, and essential medical supplies.
Governor Waiguru also addressed the plight of Mwea rice farmers, urging the national government to step in and stabilise market prices. She called for the immediate purchase of existing rice stocks and insisted that the Mwea Rice Mills remain under community ownership to safeguard farmers’ interests.
“The livelihoods of thousands of Kirinyaga families depend on rice farming. Protecting our farmers and ensuring they get value for their hard work remains a top priority,” she said.
Waiguru reaffirmed her administration’s broader vision to transform Kirinyaga through continued investments in healthcare, agriculture, education, and infrastructure development.
