Kiambu County Prepares for New Fiscal Year with Record-Breaking Budget Approval

Kiambu County Governor, Kimani Wamatangi has assented to the Kiambu County Appropriation Bill, marking the county’s proactive step towards fiscal preparedness for the upcoming financial year starting July 1st. This morning’s approval cements Kiambu County’s status as the first in the nation to pass its budget, setting a commendable precedent as it embarks on a transformative journey.

The approved budget, totaling a substantial Ksh 23.5 billion, is strategically allocated across key sectors pivotal to the county’s economic development. Notably, the Health Department emerges as the primary beneficiary with an allocation of Ksh 7.7 billion. This substantial funding is earmarked to bolster healthcare infrastructure through the construction of new hospitals, acquisition of vital medical supplies, and the initiation of the ‘Wamatangi Care’ Universal Health Coverage program.

Governor Wamatangi underscored the importance of equitable development across all electoral areas with the establishment of the Ksh 600 million Ward Development Fund. This initiative aims to empower local communities by enabling them to prioritize and implement projects that directly address their needs.

Education, another critical sector, receives a robust allocation of Ksh 2.3 billion. This funding is designated for the modernization of Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) centers, enhancing the feeding program, expanding access to educational bursaries, and supporting vocational training initiatives.

The budget further prioritizes infrastructure development, with the Roads and Transport Department receiving Ksh 2.4 billion, while Agriculture and Water sectors are allocated Ksh 1.2 billion and Ksh 1.1 billion respectively. These allocations highlight the county’s commitment to improving essential services and fostering sustainable development.

Governor Wamatangi commended the collaborative efforts between the County Assembly and the Executive, emphasizing that the smooth budgetary process underscores their shared dedication to enhancing service delivery and promoting inclusive growth.

In addition to the appropriation bill, Governor Wamatangi also assented to the County Housing and Kiambu County Persons With Disability Bill 2024 bills, underscoring the county’s commitment to addressing broader societal needs and ensuring inclusivity in governance.

As Kiambu County paves the way with its proactive budgetary measures and comprehensive legislative agenda, it sets a benchmark for effective governance and prudent financial management, poised to catalyze socioeconomic progress across the region in the new fiscal year and beyond.
