Kiambu Law Courts: Teacher Appeals for Financial Help to Sue TSC and KNUT Over Fraudulent Death Claims

A 48-year-old teacher, Titus Sabwami Mukhwana, is appealing to his colleagues for financial support to file a lawsuit against the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) and the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT).

Mukhwana alleges that both institutions enabled individuals, known to him, to fraudulently access his bank account containing over KSh 7.8 million by presenting false death certificates and burial permits, claiming to be his sons.

While addressing the Kiambu Law Courts, Mukhwana recounted how his struggles began in 2012 when he was diagnosed with asthma, which forced him to stop teaching. Abandoned by his family, which consists of three wives and 24 children, Mukhwana was taken in by his neighbor, Emmanuel Kakai. After recovering, he sought reinstatement, only to discover that the TSC had dismissed him for absenteeism, without his knowledge.

In an attempt to return to work, Mukhwana wrote to the TSC, but he received no meaningful response. During a visit to the TSC headquarters in Nairobi, he was shocked to learn that Kakai had falsely reported his death to the commission. KNUT had allegedly nominated Kakai and another individual as Mukhwana’s next of kin, allowing them to claim his benefits as supposed beneficiaries of his estate.

When confronted about the matter, Kakai neither confirmed nor denied the allegations and refused to comment further, leaving Mukhwana in a state of uncertainty. He has since been walking with evidence, seeking justice that has remained elusive, as no relevant authority has acted on his case.

Declared dead while still alive, Mukhwana fears for his safety after receiving threatening messages, which he has reported to the police, though no arrests have been made.

Mukhwana is now appealing for financial assistance from fellow teachers to help him file the necessary legal actions and reclaim his rightful benefits.
